Your ability to choose your mentors, in written form, on audio and video, and live at seminars, or even better, in person, can be the most important thing you do with your life. Here’s some advice on how to build better and more successful mentor-mentee relationships.

Number One Set clear goals for yourself in every area of your life. You must know exactly what it is you want to accomplish before you start thinking of the type of people who can help you to accomplish it.

Number Two Determine the things you have to do to achieve your goals, the obstacles you will have to overcome, and roadblocks you will have to go through.

Number Three Identify the areas of knowledge, skill and expertise you will have to acquire in order to overcome the obstacles between yourself and your goals. You can’t seek out mentors unless you know what sort of mentor relationship you require.

Number Four Look around you and select the most successful people in the areas where you will need the most help.

Number Five Join the clubs, organizations and business associations that these kinds of people belong to. You can find out this information if you ask.

Number Six Once you have joined or gotten involved in the type of organizations where the type of people who you want as mentors attend, volunteer for responsibilities and become actively involved in their activities. This will bring you to the attention of the kind of people that you want to meet faster than anything else.

Number Seven Work, study and practice continually to get better and better at what you do. The very best mentors are only interested in helping you if they feel that it is going to be of value. There is nothing that will attract people to you faster than by your developing a reputation for being an up and coming person in your field.

Number Eight When you find a potential mentor, don’t tackle the person or make a nuisance of yourself. Instead, ask for ten minutes of his or her time, in person, in private, to ask for his or her advice. Invite the person for a cup of coffee. Nothing more. Remember, that most mentors are also people who are the very busiest in their own lives and they are very sensitive to someone trying to take up a lot of their time. It’s not personal.

Number Nine When you do meet with a person, tell him or her clearly that you are very eager to be more successful in your field, and you would very much appreciate a little guidance and advice from him that would help you to move ahead. Ask for a specific answer to a question, or a specific book or audio tape recommendation, or a specific idea that he or she feels has been helpful to him or her in the past.

Number Ten After the initial meeting, send a thank you note to the person and express your gratitude and appreciation for taking their time to give you the guidance. Mention that you hope that you can call them again if you have another question.

Number Eleven Each month, drop your mentor a short note telling him or her about your progress and about what you are doing. If he or she has recommended a book or an audio tape program, be sure that you get it and read it or listen to it. If he or she has recommended that you take a particular course, be sure that you sign up for the course and begin taking it. Report this back to him or her. There is nothing that makes a potential mentor more open to helping you than your making it clear that the help is doing some good.

Number Twelve Arrange to meet with your mentor again, perhaps on a monthly basis, or even more often if you work closely together.

Over the course of your life and career, you will have sequential mentor-mentee relationships. As you grow and develop, you will, hand over hand, move on to mentors who can give you more, different and better advice for where you are now.

Finally, be willing to be a mentor to others who are younger and less experienced than you. The more open you are to helping others up the ladder of success, the more open others will be to helping you. In the finally analysis, the mentors you chose should be people that you respect, admire and want to be like. The advice that you take should be both guidance with regard to your character and personality and specific ideas on how you can do your job better and faster. Remember, you can’t figure it all out for yourself. You have to have the help of others. You have to find men and women who will guide you and advise you on the road of life, or you will take a long, long time getting anywhere.

The most wonderful thing about the mentor-mentee relationship, and all its possibilities, is that successful people are very open to helping other people who want to be successful. The key word is “Ask!” Don’t be afraid to ask people for their input and advice. Ask them for their guidance and ideas. Ask them for their opinions. If you can’t ask them personally, read their books and articles, listen to their audio tapes and attend their seminars. The very fastest way for you to succeed is by piggy-backing on the good advice and counsel of men and women who have spent years learning how to succeed ahead of you. When you do this on a regular and systematic basis, you will open up doors of opportunity and possibilities for you that today you cannot even imagine. Your future will become unlimited.

In order to build your Kleeneze business, you need two things; customers for your products and prospects to join your team.

The first is simple; put your catalogues out and you will get orders. In the beginning, some weeks will be better than others as you are trying to find your customers and establish yourself, but as time goes on, you will find people who will buy from your catalogues on a regular basis. They buy from you for a variety of reasons; they like the products; they like the price; they like the fact they can shop from the comfort of their front room; and probably a few other reasons as well.

But do you know the main reason an established customer will buy from your catalogues?

YOU.

You have proven to them that you are reliable; that you turn up when you say you will; you’ve always got a friendly smile and maybe their dog greets you like you’re one of the family. You’ve built a rapport, a relationship with your customer; they like you and they trust you.

In other words, without even knowing it, you’ve been using Attraction Marketing.

So why is it so different when you’re trying to build a team?

Wouldn’t it be nice to be attracting your target market to you instead of chasing prospects in the hopes they will join your Kleeneze business?

When you join Kleeneze (or any other network marketing business), one of the first things you are taught to do is to make a list of everyone you know (family, friends, neighbours, your mechanic, your children’s teacher, etc, etc.) and see if they want to join your business.

Fair enough, but when your friends laugh at you, it can be a bit disheartening. And judging by the drop-out rate in the industry, this factor puts more than just a few people off. To be fair, there have been large organisations built using precisely this method, but those cases are few and far between. For the majority of distributors, this method is difficult to copy effectively; it simply does not work.

Even if a lack of success with those you already know does not dampen your enthusiasm, what happens when you run out of people to talk to?

You spend time and/or money to get prospects by distributing fliers, purchasing leads, advertising in newspapers, and a variety of other ways of getting strangers to call you or look at your website; following that, you are essentially cold-calling prospects who may or may not actually be interested in what you have to offer. What you have to offer is the Kleeneze business opportunity and nothing else; if your prospect is interested in this, that’s great, but if not, what’s next? That prospect is either forgotten about or maybe followed up with the same pitch several months later. Chances are if they weren’t interested the first time, they’re not going to be interested later.

In any case, all of these strategies are based on you chasing prospects and hoping you can catch them at the right time when they are ready to join.

Your target market should be people who have already expressed an interest in and actually purchase what it is you offer, and you want it to be completely duplicable so that anyone, no matter what their ability, can do.

And that’s where the internet and the Renegade University course comes in.

You will learn how to promote YOU, not the company, and get prospects chasing you, instead of the other way round. It’s a step-by-step process, so you are never left high and dry wondering “what do I do next?”, and it is designed so that both a beginner and someone with more experience can use it. You work at your own pace through the tutorials with help, support and guidance from me and my team.

Oh, and did I mention that the initial courses are totally free?

To find out more about Renegade University and Attraction Marketing, register for a free account, and I’ll show you how you can apply these simple principles to build your Kleeneze business.

The Top 10 Character Traits for a Top MLM Builder

10. Trust and Respect: If people can’t trust you and respect what you’re doing, forget about ever being successful or making any money in this industry. You have to be honest with people and you have to EARN respect. People see right through those who are fake.

9. Confidence: If you are not confident in the business you are running, forget about ever getting anyone else involved.

8. Integrity: I once was told the definition of “integrity” is “doing what’s right even when there is no one around.” If you cut corners, if you lie to and cheat people, if you can’t seem to do what’s right, building an MLM won’t last long for you.

7. Diligence: If you struggle with getting your work done and get burnt out easily building your MLM, this industry is not for you.

6. Innovative: Innovation is the key to business nowadays. You will get left behind if you don’t figure out ways to be better at what you’re doing as well as implementing new ideas as quickly as possible.

5. Resourceful: You have to learn to leverage technology (i.e. the internet and computers) to succeed in MLM today. Did you know that only 3% of network marketers succeed today. I’d be willing to bet that of those 3%, most of them use the internet and systems to help build their business. All the successful MLMers I know use resources to help further their businesses.

4. Never stop learning: The top MLM builders in this industry never stop learning. They are always reading, always finding new ways to make money, always coming up with new systems and new trainings. The learning process never stops for a top MLM builder.

3. Willing to help others: Listen, if you don’t teach other’s how you are successful, it’s going to be a long and lonely road. If you’re in this for yourself, you will never find the satisfaction you are looking for. One of the most important and top character traits for a top MLM builder to me is the desire to help others.

2. Attract Others: This is crucial, you must attract others, not be attracted to others. What do I mean? If people aren’t coming looking for you, people won’t stay in your business. If you harass people about your business or have to go out and hunt down prospects, you’re doing this wrong. The most successful MLM builders in this industry attract new members and sales; they don’t go out and get them.

1. Aren’t Salesy (Most important of them all): And, finally, the most important character trait for a top MLM builder – STOP SELLING! People want to get value from you, they don’t want a product. If you want to succeed in MLM, you need to stop selling and start attracting people who want to know what you do based on what they see from you, namely these 10 traits.

This comes down to the question of “Old School” methods (chasing your warm list, consisting of your friends & family, or talking to strangers by using a variety of different methods, such as the 3 foot rule, AKA “everybody’s a prospect”; spending money on adverts to bring in leads or buying lists of leads, who then have to be individually qualified by calling each one, followed by meetings and/or further follow-up calls), vs. “New School” methods (mainly consisting of using the internet, with articles, blogs, social sites like Facebook and Twitter, etc. for lead generation, personal branding to a mass audience, and automated systems to qualify a prospect)

There is no denying that large teams have been built, and continue to be built, using the old methods, but is it a system that can still thrive when people have access to the internet with its 24/7 information and 100 conflicting viewpoints? If you are still working “Old School”, chances are high that your prospects are looking online to see what other people are saying about your company and making a decision based on that rather than what you’re saying. Even worse, by the time you speak to them again, they could have signed up online with some other team!

With “New School”, you are building the YOU brand; you are the “go-to” guy or girl, you are the leader with your finger on the pulse. More importantly, you actually have something useful to offer people who visit your website, like a free report or a free video series, rather than just throwing them into a sales pitch. So a prospect gives you their details, and over the course of the next few days, they receive an automatic series of emails/videos/whatever. Trust is built, and the prospect starts to view you as a useful source of information, rather than just a salesperson. Sooner or later, some of them are going to ask you to show them how they can do the same.

It all boils down to two possible solutions. Having an online presence of some kind is a definite must, even if it’s just a simple lead capture page or a blog. Beyond that, it could still be possible to build your business mostly offline, using the methods employed for decades, but as more and more people come online, why would you want to stunt your business growth? By establishing a strong online presence, you are positioning yourself right at the cutting edge; learn how to do this effectively and you will soon start to generate leads, sales and money.

So to answer the question “Can traditional UK MLMs like Kleeneze survive without Attraction Marketing?”, the answer is probably yes, but the most successful distributor networks of the next few years will be online. The new leaders will be seeking online leaders, using the power of the internet to build their businesses and training their networks to do the same.

Picture the future; in 5 years, it might no longer be a question of going to a large arena for a company conference, when you can just sign up for the leaders to be broadcast live to where you are via the world wide web…

P.S. If you are interested in learning more about Attraction Marketing, register for a free account with Renegade University where you’ll be shown how you can apply it to your own business.
